Using Vegetable Oil as an Alternate Energy

power4home

I bet you did not know that vegetable oil has been used for fuel since the early 1900’s by some people, did you? Vegetable oil was actually the original source of fuel until petroleum diesel came about in the 20’s. This public wave of using vegetable oil as fuel has recently sprung back up, because of the economic and environmental effects that oil is now having on the world.

Biodiesel fuel is comprised of 3 main ingredients- lye, methanol and vegetable oil. These three ingredients are modified and combined to create a highly efficient super fuel that could possibly help solve the current economic crisis if implemented globally. Actually the process of converting vegetable oil into fuel is actually not that difficult, and just about anyone can do it. You can do it too, in your garage, outside in your backyard, or in your own basement this can be done fairly easily. This is one of the reasons why so many people are switching to using this method. This is basically how it is made:

The process of turning vegetable oil into fuel is known as transesterification. The fuel is made of three fatty acids. These acids are held together by a byproduct called glycerine. Mixing the lye and the ethanol is what converts the vegetable oil into fuel. The lye is added to the oil to break the fatty acids that are holding the glycerine. When the acids have been separated the methanol replaces it.

Here are some good things about biodiesel.

Biodiesel is much cleaner than oil for your engines.
It is a very abundant and renewable source of fuel.
Smells a lot better than other fuels.
It is way better for the environment because it produces very clean emissions.
And on top of all of that it is better for you health.

With all of the benefits that the alternative fuel presents, it really is a wonder that a form of it has not been implemented at a global level yet. If you would like to learn some more about natural alternatives to fuel, then check out the rest of this site it has plenty of info on the subject, and I am sure you will find plenty of helpful guides.
